Have you ever tried sites like hotel.com? I never have so I don't have any experiences to speak of. I live on Cape Cod and can tell you it's mobbed. You may not even be able to easily get a room at this point depending on how close you want to be to the beach. How old are your kids? If they are little you might want to go to storyland in New Hampshire in the white mountains. You'll have to be happy with a pool - there are gorgeous streams around but again, it depends on the ages of the kids...
haha thats funny.... you aint gonna find ANY hotels in any of those states for under $100 a nite... i live in MA about 50mins inland from the cape and hotels in my town are $90 a nite... if you wanna stay anywhere near the coastline plan to cough up atleast $130+ a nite... you might be able to find a cheap motel like $100 a nite at the beginning of the cape bridges...
David is wrong, Nashua is over an hour from the ocean ( my son in law works there). Call the chamber of commerce of the town you wish to visit they might give you a heads up on deals. Or check in with the chains ie; best western, holiday inn etc. You should be able to find something.

I found a travelodge in Portland, Maine for under $100 using that site.
